Hi friends,
As our eternal home becomes more and more visible from our sight on this side of eternity, we must as a matter of necessity survey the cross of Jesus which is the meat of the matter.
To survey means to study and give a general description of
something.
The issue of surveying the cross of Jesus is so crucial that Isaac
Watson gave a vivid and inspired testimony of his encounter at the time he
surveyed in his song, ‘When I survey the wondrous cross’
This further implies that there is a divine timing that every
pilgrim encounters Jesus when such individual makes an attempt to survey the
cross of our Lord and saviour. Little wonder, the Bible said our times are in
His hands.
The wise man who wrote the book of Ecclesiastes in the 3rd
chapter further said, ‘There is a time and a season for every activity under heaven….’
As much as the responsibility of surveying the cross of the
crucified Lord lies on us, the Almighty God determines when, where and how to
reveal Himself to the earnest seeker.
Without mincing words, I must admit to you, fellow pilgrim
and co- labourer that the depth of a believer’s walk with the Lord of this
highway is determined by revelation received at the cross.
As a way of encouraging our weary hearts and joining faith
with one another, can we join the writer in singing this heart-warming song to the
Lord?
1.
When
I survey the wondrous cross:
On which the Prince of glory died,
My richest gain I count but loss,
And pour contempt on all my pride.
2.
Forbid
it, Lord, that I should boast:
Save in the death of Christ, my God!
All vain things that charm me most,
I sacrifice them through his blood.
3.
See,
from his head, his hands, his feet,
Sorrow and love flow mingled down.
Did e’er such love and sorrow meet,
Or thorns compose so rich a crown?
4.
Were
the whole realm of nature mine:
That were a present far too small.
Love so amazing, so divine,
Demands my soul, my life, my all!
May this and many more be our testimony individually and
collectively as we deliberately and intentionally decide to survey the cross of
our Lord and saviour, Jesus Christ.
Stay blessed until we meet at the golden city of the New Jerusalem.
Your friend
and fellow pilgrim in the race,
Pastor Janet
