Hi friends,
As we yet move closer to our eternal abode, there is need to
understand the meaning and significance of the cross of Calvary. For there to
be a proper understanding of a place, thing or process, a thorough survey is
inevitable.
To survey means to study and give a general description of
something.
And
when they had come to the place called Calvary, there they
crucified Him, and the criminals, one on
the right hand and the
other on the left.
Prior to the crucifixion of Christ, the 26th verse
of this chapter had given us vivid description of how Jesus carried His cross
before a man named Simon the Cyrene was made to carry it after Him.
When we survey the cross of Jesus where our Lord and saviour
paid the ultimate price for the salvation of mankind with His precious blood,
it helps us to run this Christian race with sobriety and every sense of
responsibility. The appropriate survey
helps us to stay focused on our eternal destination.
One very profound and outstanding significance of the cross
of Jesus is death to self and the world while His resurrection to every heaven
minded believer signifies being alive unto Christ and righteousness.
Little wonder, Apostle Paul said, for me to live is Christ and to die is gain. He further said, In Him we live and move and have our being. In
another place, he said, Christ in you,
the hope of glory.
There is a glory associated with living the crucified life
which is only attainable when we focus on this wondrous cross of Christ. Simply
put, some Bible scholars said the cross being horizontal and vertical is meant
to reconcile men to men and men to God.
The message of Jesus’ cross is reconciliation through a life
of devotion and consecration to Jesus Christ our Lord and saviour. It is a life
of self – denial and followership in the footsteps of the Master. It is a life
of total submission to the will of the Master and Lord of the way.
Without the cross of Jesus, Christianity would have no
meaning or hope. Without the cross there is no crown. There would have been no redemption for
mankind nor eternal security.
It is quiet appalling that some self-acclaimed Christians and
preachers have never being to the cross, touched or felt the agony of the Saviour
and redeemer who willing offered up Himself on this cross.
Fellow pilgrim and yoke bearer with our Lord, have you being
to the cross? If yes, have you made any attempt to survey this wondrous cross? Have
you understood the implication of this cross? Has it influenced your life and
purpose in any way?
Maybe it’s being a while since you visited the cross, why not
revisit it again through a time of fellowship and communion with the King of the
Jews who was crucified on the cross?
Christianity without an encounter with the personality of the
cross is socializing. Attending churches and fellowship without encountering the
cross is like partying and clubbing. Would you allow Jesus have the centre
stage of your life and heart?
Stay blessed until we meet at the golden city of the new Jerusalem.
Your friend
and fellow pilgrim in the race,
Pastor Janet
