Hi Friends,
With another step closer to our
eternal abode, I cannot but remind us that this kingdom race is not an easy
race and one peculiarity of it is persecution. The truth about it all is that
if you are not being persecuted for Christ’s sake, you need to have a close
self-examination.
The book of Jeremiah 20:11 says;
But the Lord is with me as a mighty terrible one; therefore my
persecutors shall stumble , and
they shall not prevail : they shall
be greatly
ashamed ; for they shall not prosper: their everlasting confusion shall never
be forgotten.
To prevail means to prove to be
more powerful or persuade to do something.
The scripture above is a sure word of assurance from the Lord that as
much as persecution abounds on this pilgrimage heaven ward, your persecutors
and mine persecutors shall be greatly ashamed to the point that they will
stumble and not prevail because of God’s abiding presence is with us.
This scripture brings to mind how I was once hit my toe on a stone, stumbled
and almost fell done only to later discover I had a big wound on the toe was
bleeding until I was given a first aid to stop the bleeding. I believe what the scripture above is saying
about persecutors is not far from this.
It does not matter the strength of the opposition or persecution.
Little does it matter, where and who is behind the persecution. It could be a
personality (human or spiritual), situation or circumstances. There is an
assurance from Jehovah, the man of war that they shall not prevail.
I might not know how you are feeling or what you are going through
while facing the opposition from the persecutors but I can assure you without
fail that Jesus Christ the Lord of the way is ever with you and no evil shall
prevail over you.
To further strengthen the confidence of the pilgrim, there was a step
by step description of what will happen to every persecutor. These are:-
1.
They shall stumble
2.
They and they shall not prevail
3.
They shall be greatly ashamed
4.
They shall not prosper
5.
Their everlasting confusion shall never be forgotten.
This is indeed a very goodnews to every believer who is being
persecuted for righteousness sake. Jesus further buttresses this word in the
beatitudes when he said, ‘blessed are you
when men shall persecute you’
Why not continually take solace and succor from this reassuring word of
the Master that they shall not prevail. Let courage rise from within your inner
man and divine strength be revealed to prevail against the opposition because
you are more than a conqueror.
Your friend and fellow pilgrim in the Kingdom Race,
Pastor Janet
