My Earnest Prayer in this New Age

Hi friends,

Too many times we become so carried away with the cares of this life like John Bouyan  rightly displayed in his classic ‘ Pilgrims Progress’ as vanity fair that we forget that there is always a day of reckoning.

A great Philosopher once said ‘An unexamined life is not fit to live’. Can you imagine the words and wisdom of an ordinary philosopher? The scripture even admonishes us to examine ourselves daily to see if we are still in the faith!

It is with this scripture in sight that the Psalmist prayed this popular prayer in Psalms 90: 12,

So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.

Food for thought, isn’t it? The nature of every man is to continually toy with time even when he really does not have the time. What has brought about procrastination?

A doctor well known to me once confessed that he works better under pressure. I must admit that this is also true for me. Many times when I have the feeling that there is still time, I end up not accomplishing much. Does it happen to you?

The Psalmist began to plead with God Almighty to teach him to count his days. I am also praying same as I add up another year to my life that the God of heaven will teach me to count my days to see how fewer they are becoming.

As an educationist, I have come to discover that to teach goes beyond passing on information but it probably could be liken to training.  It could mean to keep informing a student until he naturally imbibes all that he is taught.

A proper counting of our days/ years will help I and you to apply our hearts unto wisdom. It will make us know how limited our time on this side of eternity is. It will also help us prepare for the world to come. It will help us abstain from worldly lust and its affections. It will make us excuse ourselves from the ‘vanity fair’ of life and be heavenly focused.

Wisdom is the right application of knowledge and too many times people die without applying the knowledge they have acquired from God . They keep postponing until a later date only to find out that they are called home earlier than they thought.

Little wonder, the grave is said to be the richest place on earth because of the untapped or unutilized human resources found there.

Lord Jesus, as I celebrate this birthday of mine if there is any other prayer I am praying apart from thanks giving, it is to be taught by you. If men teach me, there will be limitations. If I have to learn by experience it is even harder but if you teach me by your spirit, then I shall be truly taught.

That I might be taught of you so that I can have great peace on this kingdom highway and learn to run my race with patience and perseverance looking unto Jesus , the author and finisher of my faith.

This is my humble request and hearth's cry as I journey another day closer to the golden city, TEACH ME. By virtue of your teaching and training I can now apply my heart to wisdom. Thank you Lord Jesus, because this and many more you will do for me. Hallelujah!!

Your friend and fellow pilgrim in the Kingdom Race,

Pastor Janet
