Hi friends,
I will be speaking to us on a very
important and touching topic titled “the brevity of life” trusting that heaven
will help us to reorder our priorities right on this kingdom Highway.
The word brevity connotes, ‘shortness
of time or duration; briefness or better still the brevity of
human life’ as defined by the Cambridge dictionary.
The Psalmist said in Psalms 90 :12 ;
Teach us to number our days that we may
apply our hearts to wisdom.
To help our understanding of what God
is pointing us to I would want to tell us about a happening that brought tears
to the eyes of so many of us sometime ago.
Sometime ago, I lost a very close
relation of whom we had all prayed and believed that God was going to give her a miraculous
healing. It was a very big blow on the entire family since we had not lost a
youthful person in recent times.
Her entire family, friends and
relations rallied round but we could do little or nothing because her
appointment with the inevitable death must be fulfilled.
Permit me to say a little about my
beloved so that we all may understand the brevity of life and the need to
constantly prepare for our eternal home.
We had lived together for about
twenty- five and I remember vividly well after she was laid to mother earth
telling another relation how we had come over here to this her home town twenty
five years ago seeking for her hand in marriage.
Hear what her husband had to say in
the heat of the pain and agony of loosing his dearest. He said , ‘People say my
wife is beautiful but I can tell the whole world she is even more beautiful
inside than outside’.
A mother of four and senior ranking
customs officer and barrister in my country who had attain the peak of her
professional career. In her early fifties she is so well read and had traveled
all over the world both for conferences, seminars and off health issues.
She had all that money could buy
that she choose to be a philanthropist in her latter years. So fashionable that
it was as if she was born with fashion and role modeling. She had everything a
man would desire in a woman.
She had an amiable and leadership
personality that made her to be easily picked out anywhere she goes. She
was a very pleasant person.
She affected her world so much so
that like the biblical Tabitha many came after she was gone to show us the ‘purple
clothes and linen’ she had made for them during her lifetime.
Like the virtuous woman of Proverbs
31 her husband called her blessed and her children lacked nothing good but alas
she is gone!
She has gone to the world of no
return. She has gone the way of all the living in her prime. She has gone to be
with her God and maker!
So many high and mighty came around
to give her the last respect but that
could not make-up for the vacuum she has left in the hearts of so many and they
tagged her poster ‘Forever in our hearts’.
My dear pilgrim and sojourner how
prepared are you for that eternal home? Life is so short that the bible it is
like the flower that appears blossoms and is withered away.
Heaven is a prepared place for a
prepared people . Shall we be caught unawares at the call of the Lord?
God bless you as we make straight every
crooked path on our way to this eternal destination in Jesus name.
Your friend and fellow Pilgrim in
the Kingdom Race,
Pastor Janet.

Amen, and God bless you ma!
