Hi friends,
Today is boxing day, a day well
commemorated all over the world for centuries since the death of Christ and
advent of Christianity.
For the few decades of my life, I have
seen people exchange different kinds of gifts based on the class and caliber of
both the giver and the receiver at this season.
This morning as I was just
ruminating over so many issues of life, the Lord laid this scripture in my heart
that will help every pilgrim to be sober at this crucial time.
Malachi 1:6-8 says something very
important that we must take to heart as we live our day to day lives.
A son
honoureth his father and a servant his master: if then
I be a
father, where is mine honour? And if I be a master,
where is my
fear? saith the Lord of hosts unto you, O priests,
that despise my name. And ye say, wherein have
we despised
thy name? Ye
offer polluted bread upon mine altar; and ye say,
wherein have we polluted thee? In that ye say,
the table of
the Lord is contemptible. And if ye offer the
blind for sacrifice,
is it not evil? And if ye offer the lame and
sick, is it not evil?
Offer it now unto thy governor; will he be
pleased with
thee, or
accept thy person? saith the Lord of hosts. (KJV)
We do all we can to give the best
gifts (or boxes) to our friends so they can appreciate us and know we have a ‘class’.
In certain places like Nigeria, West
Africa, where I come from some can even go the extent of borrowing to celebrate
Christmas. Some have passed on to a Christless eternity in the bid to celebrate
Christmas.
Some of us who claim to have known
the Lord Jesus Christ deny Him the honour due Him in not giving the best we
have per time yet we give the best to friends to earn their admiration.
God has never given any man less
than His best for Him per time. Little wonder, He gave us His only begotten son
so that whoever believes in Him should not perish. He gave us life, health,
prosperity, families, salvation and He is still preparing a home for us in eternity
so we can live with Him forever.
Why then should any believer give
this generous and gracious God less than the best? Since you claim to have
known Jesus Christ as Lord, what has this free but costly salvation cost you? Since
you embarked on this Heavenly pilgrimage, what have you willing sacrificed for
the Lord Jesus?
May be you have forgotten that God
will not owe you in this world and the world to come whatever you give to Him.
Giving your best is an act of honour which He is bound to reciprocate in
diverse ways and abundantly if you will but honour your Heavenly father.
God is a father worthy of your
honour and praise. He is worthy of your admiration and your entire being. Give
it to Him and you are sure of a bountiful harvest in return.
God bless you and have a safe
landing on the eternal shores in Jesus’ name.
Your friend and fellow Pilgrim in the
Kingdom Race,
Pastor Janet.
