Hi friends,
As today’s activity is far getting to a close and it would
soon be time to rest from the hurdles, troubles and the evils of the day. There
is a great need for us to have a very sober
reflection as we ruminate on this issue of treasure.
For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also Mathew 6:21
Many of us as Christians live our lives as if every other
thing is going to start and end here. We expend our whole energy and being
chasing money and material acquisition. We steal, cheat, lie and do all sorts
of terrible things as long as money will come out from it.
Some of us don’t even mind denying our faith as long as monetary
and material gains will follow after. We console ourselves and justify our
nailing of Jesus Christ on the cross for a second time with words like ‘God
understands’.
Who told you that God understands?
In 1994, I was privileged to listen to a man of God who said
he and his family had agreed to give God a higher percentage of his income but when
that month was almost ended, every
member of his family had to visit the hospital for treatment.
When it was time to give God what was promised, he called his
entire family together and said what he wanted to do but when his daughter
asked him ‘does God really understand?’
His heart was pricked
and he did as they had promised God with little or nothing left for the family
upkeep. To his amazement, God sent angels to put bundles of money in his drawer
the following day. What a generous God we serve!
Where do you keep your treasure as a christian Pilgrim? Where
exactly to you store up your harvest after every labour? What exactly is your
motivation as you embark on life pursuits? Is it just to acquire everything acquirable
and forget the eternal home that Jesus has gone ahead to prepare for us?
Life is too short lived and full of so much uncertainties
that it will be penny wise and pound foolish to put you all down here!
Jesus told us that thieves can break in to steal your
treasure. Moth can corrupt it and leave you heart broken. Global melt down
might even devalue your hard earned treasure if you are not careful.
Where your treasure is, that is where your heart will be also.
Lay for yourselves treasure in heaven so that your heart can be heavenward as we
journey home holding each other’s hands.
Stay focused on the author and finisher of your faith and be
wise!
Your friend and fellow Pilgrim in the Christian Race,
Pastor Janet
