Hi friends,
About two decades ago, I got an invitation from a senior
minister to worship in his church that evening and I accepted since it was a
special programme. Earlier that day I had to visit a few places and half way to
my destination I was told rioters were all over the place.
As was the custom of
our police in my country, they later threw tear gas and I was choking where I had
to hide for safety. Although I got to my destination safely and back home only
with headache that lasted the whole day.
I wanted to change my mind about the invitation but I had
given my word and would not want to fail.
When I got to the programme, this was the song the guest
artist sang and I was so lifted that I forgot the troubles of the day, the headache
was gone and I almost never wanted it to end.
The reality of that song was so awesome that seven years
after when I got hold of the lyrics I sang so passionately until I slept off
that night.
Beloved, please, sing this song with me and meditate on its
lyrics as our eternal home gets closer and closer.
Will your anchor hold
in the storms of life?
When the clouds unfold their wings of strife?
When the strong tides lift, and the cables strain,
Will your anchor drift, or firm remain?
We have an anchor that keeps the soul
Steadfast and sure while the billows roll;
Fastened to the Rock which cannot move,
Grounded firm and deep in the savior’s love!
It is safely moored, ‘twill the storm withstand,
For ‘tis well secured by the savior’s hand,
And the cables passed from His heart to mine,
Can defy the blast through strength divine.
It will firmly hold in the strait of fear,
When the breakers have told the reef is near;
Though the tempest rage and the wild winds blow,
Not an angry wave shall our back o’erflow;
It will surely hold in the flood of death,
When the waters cold, chill our latest breath,
On the rising tide it can never fail,
While our hopes abide within the veil!
When our eyes behold, through the gathering night’
The city of gold, our harbour bright,
We shall anchor fast by the heavenly shore,
with the storms all past forever more.
as you lie to sleep may your anchor be on Christ that unfailing Rock. May it also hold till we meet our Lord and Master in glory,amen.
Your friend and fellow companion in the Kingdom Race,
Pastor Janet
