Hi friends,
As a matter of responsibility, we cannot but remind ourselves
of the need to recognize and appreciate the mercies of God as we journey
heavenward moving closer and closer to our eternal destination.
The Psalmist said in Psalms 89:1-2
I will sing
of the mercies of the Lord forever:
with my mouth,
would I make known,
Thy
faithfulness to all generations.
For I have said,
mercy be built up for ever:
Thy faithfulness
shalt thou establish in the very heavens.
If I understand the above scriptures well enough all that the
writer was saying is that he was going to testify of God’s mercy. He meant that
he was going to boast of God’s mercy and rejoice in it. He further meant he was
going to declare God’s mercy to everyone who would care to listen.
The word mercy means forgiveness
or withholding of punishment.
Another way of putting this definition is God removing the
judgment you deserve and by His grace giving you the favor you do not
deserve. By God’s divine mandate and principle, grace and mercy are companions.
I have come to the understanding that the journey of life is
not about your know how or ability but about the mercy of God. Little wonder
the scriptures says, the race is not to the swift but it is of the Lord that
showed mercy.
When the mercy of the Lord avails in the life of a man, it
over- rules judgment and declares a guilty sinner like I and you as pilgrims and
the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus.
Hopeless sinners like you and I who were without God have
been made saints and Pilgrims because of God’s boundless love and mercy. We were
alienated from the common wealth of Israel yet by mercy have become the Lord’s
elect.
Remember, the thief at the right hand of Jesus on the cross,
who by mercy was permitted to be with Jesus in paradise. This great mercy of God
forgives all sins no matter the gravity of it.
The only way to appreciate this great mercy of God that
forgives all sins is to tell the whole of humanity about it by singing of this
great mercy as declared by the Psalmist.
When we focus on this great mercy, it makes us to become more
appreciative and run this race with the fear and reference of the all merciful God.
We can therefore comprehend the fact
that this great mercy is what enables us run this heavenly race successfully
and get to our eternal home.
May you and I ever cherish the mercy of God on this
pilgrimage until we arrive safely at the eternal shores.
Your friend
and fellow pilgrim in the race,
Pastor Janet
